NEW BILLABONG STRETCH BOARDIES- PARKO DOMINATOR

The newest Stretch boardies from Billabong have just hit the shelves. The only two pieces of negative feedback we hear about stretch boardies is (A) why are they all black? and (B) why are they so expensive? Well Billabong have solved these two problems with these new boardies, as they are available in the stylish black and yellow design you see to the left and they retail $79.95, which is what a standard pair of boardies cost! Dont miss out cause they will be flying off the shelves.

MEGA MAGIC AVAILABLE FOR TEST

We have just introduced the new 7'2'' Walden MEGA MAGIC to the test range. We struggled to keep stock of these over Chrissy and have finally got our hands on a demo model. With the 7'2'' You will receive the equivalent volume of a 9'3'' Mctavish Fireball! This model maintains all over the performance characteristics of the popular 9'0'' MAGIC model whilst knocking off alot of uneccessary length and still maximising bouyancy. Using the SLX technology the board is incredibly lightweight and durable. If you like the concept of the 7s Superfish then you will absolutley love this shape. Come and give it a bash!

Follow this link to the Gloabal Surf Industry site for a more technical run through of the Walden Mega Magic...

RAPIDFIRE-NEW FIREWIRE TECHNOLOGY

Hope everybody had a good Xmas break with plenty of waves, as there were a few little ones around for those making the effort. Prior to Xmas we were able to score a couple of the new Firewire models called the RAPIDFIRE which were a really hot board over the holidays and sold out really quickly!

We were also able to pick up one for the demo range in the dominator shape (photo on the right) which i have been surfing a fair bit oveer the holidays in the smaller stuff up the sunnycoast and i can see what all the fuss is about. This thing is sooooo bouyant, much the same as a fish but the performance is incredible which i think is a combination of the shape and material.

These guys retail about $150 cheaper than some of the other models at a much cheaper $795, due somewhat to the sustainabilty of the bamboo materials used as a skin on the deck. Reesy just got back from the factory and they are fully stocked again for 2010, so come try the demo and see what you think.

Follow this link to the Firewire site for a more technical run through of the Rapidfire technology...

NAME THE THING COMPETITION

Big congratulations to Glen Brading who earns himself a $100 voucher to spend on anything in the store and the naming rights to the new shape. He has dubbed the new shape THE SCIMITAR. His well researched entry states that the scimitar is a sword of Middle Eastern origin which features a curved blade, which is distinctly similar to the outline of this new shape.

Reesy has been getting dusty and shaped a few of these mostly for team Riders like Vity and more recently Tommy Barrell in Bali and the feedback has been really good. Generally these are to be ridden similar to your punt dimensions, so about two inches shorter and a fraction wider then your normal shortboard. However where they differ from the punt is they use a really pulled in swallow which tightens the board up a little and feature a shortboard rocker, enhancing the maneuverability. These will hit the shelf and the test racks shortly so keep an eye out for them.

SANUKS HAVE LANDED!!!

Finally the sanuks are here. These are often the most sought after item in the shop. We have stocked up on a couple of mens styles and sizes and also there are a few fresh ladies colour ways. We have also picked up a fresh run of mens leather thongs. Be quick as these things will go that fast and its first in best dressed.....or at least your feet will be best dressed (terrible joke) but seriously they sell quickly. The photo on the right is a preview of a few new styles!

7S NEW SIZE, NEW COLOURS, NEW LOGOS

The new 7s superfish have just arrived in store. These boards are one of the most popular boards in Australia and now

come with : -subtle new logos

                  -new colours

                  -new size.

The new colours include a brighter red than the existing red and a new orange/yellow tint (check the photo to the right). They have also introduced a 6'6'' into the range providing an option between the 6'3'' and 68''. Epoxy versions are still available in all sizes.

BOAT SHOW RAFFLE WINNER ANNOUNCED

Big congratulations to Jenny Fugle who took home the new Blue epoxy 6'7'' which was given away at the Brisbane Boating and Fishing expo over the weekend. She was extactic to pick up the new stick but im guessing not half as excited as her son, who is inheriting the board. Congratulations guys and thanks to everyone else who put in an entry, better luck next year!

TARA COMES SOOO CLOSE AT AUS SURF FEST

Primitive Surf's golden girl Tara Christie came sooo close to cleaning up in the opens women division at the Australian Surfing Festival in Coffs Harbour yesterday. She put in a mega performance by clawing her way out of the requalifying round, to knocking out last years winner in the semis and then falling just short of the win after getting pipped at the post in the final, after leading for most of the heat. The end result was fellow Sunny Coaster Dimity Stoyle 1st and Tara 2nd. Congratulations Tara!

On a more technical note we apoligise for the lack of photos of late but were having problems uploading. Were waiting on the techy's to come sort it out!

FIREWIRES 4 HIRE

You guys have been asking for it for a while now and we have been finally able to make it happen, 4 new firewires for the hire range bringing the total up to 6 different firewires to try.The most popular board in their range has got to be the dominator, very similar to a round tail version of our blackbird. We have a 6'0'' and a 6'4'' availble to test. This has definately had some excellent response from the customers who have already purchased one. We also have a new 6'2'' Taj model for hire and a 6'3'' Direct Drive. The Direct Drives are the newest technolgy in the firewire range, they feature interior carbon rods rather than the parabolic balsa rail, said to provide a slightly stiffer and snappier response. You dead set need a degree in aeroscience to get your head round these things (we will do our best job to explain what we understand!)

JULY BALI TRIP

Ive just recently returned from a three week stint in Bali and it was definately up there with the best trip i have done. Sure is good to get home to the currently cold and flat Sunny Coast! We had a few swells and had some good days from Bingin up to Ulus. I spent the hole trip staying with Primitive team rider Tommy Barrell at his warungs in Bingin. He is a dead set legend and surfs unbeleivable! A small group of Irish surfers who were also staying with him dubbed him the King of Bingin. He looks after you like family and will guarantee you get waves (even at Bingin with 30 guys out!). Anyone spending sometime over there, its definately worth dropping in and spending a day or even a few weeks with him. Super cheap and a really nice set up, perfect for a boys trip or couples. We can organise it for you from the shop before you fly and if you got any questions come and ask, cause i could talk to you about it all day long. Photos from the trip are getting uploaded as i type this and a sequence of Tommy at Ulus from the trip is already up in the gallery. Enjoy!

BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTCIPATED IN THE FIREWIRE/ QUIKY NIGHT

A massive thanks to Nev from Firewire and Brooko and the Quiky boys for an awesome and informative night on Wednesday. Thanks also to everybody else who braved the cold and joined in making for a great night. We were all treated, over a few beers, to a comprehensive run down of Quiksilver's freshest developments in the way of rubber, some brand spanking footage of Kelly ripping in the new wetty's in a recent swell on the Gold Coast and some free Quiksilver merchendise which is always well received. Nev also put on quite a show with his groundbreaking innovation in surfboards, the much hyped Firewires. He gave us a run through of the whole range (which we now have available in store) and trackled a heap of questions from the audience. All in all it was great night and we look forward to the next one!

Theres a couple of shots in the gallery for you guys who couldn't make it on Wednesday night, apologies as some shots are a little blurry. The photographer must have been getting stuck into the free beers!

FIREWIRE & QUIKSILVER WETSUITS PRODUCT NIGHT 10th/6th

As many of you would have read in the latest Enews next Wednesday night the 10th, we will be having a comprehensive product night featuring Firewire and Quiksilver wetsuits. Nev Hyman will be here to answer any questions about Firewire surfboards which have been receiving heaps of hype. Following this evening Primitve Surf will provide a complete range of Firewire surfboards for sale so we can all surf like Taj.

Wednesday night will also see all the Quiky boys coming down to give us a run through of their 09 wetsuits. Wetsuit technology is evolving so quikly its hard to stay on top of it all and really easy to get confused, so come down and throw a few questions at the boys. Recently retired WCT campaigner Troy Brooks will also be making an appearance on the night.
Bring your friends and family as everybody is welcome!

POST CODE CHALLENGE 09 WRAP UP & PHOTOS NOW UP IN GALLERY

The POST CODE CHALLENGE 09 has been run and won in good conditions at Sunrise Beach. Nick Vitko, Ellie Weinert, Peter Voss, Brett Hodge and Chris Chetham were all crowned the best surfers in Brisbane after 2 days of competition.
Saturday we woke to 2-3ft waves and perfect light offshore winds for the entire day. Round 1 of the Opens saw some great surfing with the level pushed to a new high. Standouts and weekend threats were Adam Johnson, Ash McDonald, GArth Lewis, Jeremy Dickson, Kyle Bodenham, Paul Shilling, Anton Petterson and Nick Vitko. Ash was the days top wave and heat scorer. Round 2 heat 4 was stacked and after AJ and Kyle were given a double interference, it looked certain that and upset was on the cards. But it was not to be with the other 2 not taking the advantage and letting AJ and Kyle move through to the Semi Finals on Sunday.

The Juniors round 1 and semi finals were decided on Saturday due to the good waves with 3 of the favourites Fraser Livingstone, Will Honke and Brock Irwin all being knocked out early. At the end of Saturday 4 juniors remained, Ash, Lucas, Ben and Cam.
Sunday the swell had dropped a bit to 1-2 ft and tricky. The weather was perfect and blue skies made a huge difference to last year. The Over 45's hit it early with Dave Winders, Tim Butcher, Paul Curran, Jimmy Charchalis, Mark Tynan and Chris Chetham setting the standard.  Curro got skunked for waves in the semi as did Tim leaving the other to fight out the final. Many on the beach and 1 of the judges thought Jimmy had the win but Chetto got the nod with Mark and Davo 3rd and 4th.

The Over 35's heats saw 2 standout surfers, Brett Hoge comboed everyone in heat 1 and so did Darren Podlich in the 2nd. The other 2 finalists were Ziggy and Andy Rice but the final came down to Daz and Hodgy. Hodgy was lucky to not be called for an interference on Ziggy at one stage but the judges sorted it and Hodgy went on to just defeat Daz and get the new board.

The Juniors also came down to a 2 surfer battle between Ash McDonald and Lucas Clentsmith but with about 5 minutes to go Lucas paddled into a great looking left and went to town on it, scored an 8 and Ash was left looking for a similar wave that never came. Ben Harris came 3rd and Cam Cotterall 4th.

A PCC womens ring was on offer to winner of the girls event and the four girls went at it. In the end Ellie Weinert cam out on top with Kelly Giles 2nd, Wendy Gordon 3rd and Laura 4th. Ellie's speech was classic, saying now she has set the level for her family and now it's up to Keil and Kurt to surf better next year.

The Over 55's had 3 of the SAS Program guys, Peter Kearney, Guy Vickerman and Gary Dickson up against Peter Voss in the final. Gary got an early interference(which is ironic as everyone is normally dropping in on him) which left him in 4th place with Guy in 3rd PK 2nd and Vossy with the mantle of best Brisbane surfer over 55.

Kyle got off to a great start in the final and with a 7.5 point ride near the half way mark he was looking good. Vity was building the bank with a few 5's and 6's and then bang, last 2 waves were an 8 and a 7. Game over and Nick Vitko is off to Tonga. Anton was on fire all weekend and was in one better spot than last year, maybe he'll better it again next year. Paul Shilling was a pleasure to watch on the left's and is always a massive threat but just didn't get the workable waves in the last heat of the weekend.

So a huge thanks to all our sponsors, all the spectators that turned up at the beach, the CS surfers for the food, Noosa BR club and of course thanks for the good weather and waves.

POST CODE CHALLENGE 09 SCHEDULE & HEAT DRAW

All right guys and girls here it is. Most details have been finalized so click the link below to check out when you are surfing and who you are competing against. At this stage the forecast suggest we will have a diminishing south swell for the weekend but the positive side of that is the winds are forecasted to be a light SW for most of the weekend. Keeping that in mind we are farely confident in saying we will be running the comp on the open beaches somewhere between Perigian and Sunshine. We are just waiting to here back from the Noosa Boardriders as to where the best banks are. Prizes are being divided up over the devisions including, The Trip to Tonga with the 2nd person going for half price, 5 new sticks and the mens and womens rings have just been dropped off courtesy of Peter Gordon Jewellery, which look amazing ( come check them out as they will be displayed instore before the comp) and heaps more prizes.

There are still few spots available in the opens, womens and over 45's division so give us a call and we can hold you a spot untill you can get instore to fill out an entry form. Stay tuned for the final word on the location!

PRIMITIVE SURF WETSUIT TEST 09

Over the last few weeks we have asked some of you guys and our team to test the 2009 range of top end steamers. The top 3 were discovered and heres how they piled up.

#1 XCEL INFINITY rrp$474.95. This suit seems to fit everybody the best. The stretch is pretty similar across the board for the top three but this suit fits like a glove!

#2 QUIKSILVER CYPHER rrp from $479.95. You might have seen Kelly in this suit at Bells with the fluro green sleeves. Most people dropped the Quiky suit as runner up. Super stretchy and good fit for most body shapes. I have personally used one in the water and they keep all the water out and you warm as toast!

#3 ONEILL PHSYCO 2 rrp$549.95. The Phsyco is one of the most popular suits every winter and this year most people rated it around third. An interesting point is it's the only suit in the top three to use a back zip (both the other wetty's use a chest zip entry). So for you guys not sold on the chest zip style then this is the suit for you. Very flexible and well sealed!

We have now over 1500 items of neoprene in store so come check em out for yourself

CYCLONE HAMISH DELIVERS AND CYCLONE JASPER SET TO FOLLOW SUIT!

Stories have been flooding in about were was pumping when cyclone Hamish was in town. There heaps of waves on the points at Noosa and through Cooly, even Spot X turned it on for the boys in the Quiky Pro finals. But how is this little gem which was emailed through from Jeff Blackburn up north somewhere near Yeppoon. Jeff exact words were "most people belevie that we dont get much surf up here, Hamish hepled out."

Looking at the forecast for the next few days is looking really really really promising. The position of cyclone Jasper is perfect and we can expect some great waves over the weekend and through most of next week with the peak being around Tuesday/ Wednesday. If any secret spots come alive like Jeffs did, take a photo and send us through a quick email and we will give it a run on the website. We dont have to drop names either.

VITTY IN INDO...

We Just received some good shots of Primitive team rider and ex ding dude Nick Vitko in Bali. He's currently doing a 3 month stint in various places throughout Indo. He's been keeping us all informed on whats been happening on the forum and sounds like he is on his way to Macaroni's after falling off the radar for a few days (due to some big nights out in Bali). But it seems like the trip is back on track and the boys are getting some fun waves. Stay tuned to the gallery for some more pics from Vitty's latest travels and also keep an eye on the forum for more insight into whats been happening.

WAVES IN OCTOBER???

Last weekend was a bit of a weird one, with some quality and uncrowded waves to be had for those who were keen to get stuck into it! It was an uncharacteristic although much appreciated October weekend with waves on offer on both coasts. All the excitement of the Indy on at the Goldy seemed to keep the crowds nice and thin, as alot of reports flooding back suggested that people thought acces to Southport could be a little tricky with the Indy circus in town so South Straddie had a generous amount of waves on offer, with sunshine and realtively no wind. Hope you got a few while the swell was around because just looking at the charts for the next couple of days isn't looking to inspiring.

On Wednesday the 17th Primitive Surf held the annual and much anticipated Surf Travel Night for '08. Previous years have seen a full house and this year it was no different. Plenty of new destinations were covered on the big screen with everyone excited over their new travel prospects.

Some of the highlights from the night were guest appearances from the owners of MATANIVUSI resort in Fiji, Brian and Donna, and Andrew who owns and operates The Exocuedus vessel throughout Papua New Guinea. This was a first for one of our travel nights and all owners had the crowd completely engaged when trading stories and details of their magnificent destinations. A big shout out to you guys for coming along, the crew from World Surfaris, the Northside Christian Surfers for maning the BBQ and Pro-lite for the prizes. The door prize of $500 World Sufaris voucher was won by Mike Procter while Josh McGarry took home the Pro-lite cover for best travel photo. Thanks again to all of our customers who came along and made this another successful event.

"I have only just returned from a trip myself last week but I was still jumping out of my skin to book in and start dreaming, I can’t imagine what was going through the minds of some of the weekday starved 9-5 surfers that where watching what was on the big screen." - Qoute from Jamie Willems (Global Surf Industries).

Keep an eye out for the rest of the photos Monday.

Surf Travel Night and the waves are back...

After 10 days of no waves a southerly swell has graced us with 2 days of good waves if you have been hitting any of the sth swell magnets. While I have talked to a few people today saying the Sunny Coast was still really small, I'm surfed out after 4ft D-Bah yesterday and 4-5ft Sth Straddy this morning. There's still a few days left in this swell so get amounst it before the spring blues arrive.
